What’s good about the iPhone Duo
A real “phone plus tablet”
Unfolded, the 7.6-inch screen is great for reading, videos, email and maps. For the first time on an iPhone, you can run two apps side by side, save app pairs, and even open two windows of the same app. You can also use it partly folded, like a tiny laptop.
A less visible crease
Apple says it uses special layered materials and a matte nano-texture finish on the inner screen to reduce reflections and make the crease harder to see. How well this holds up over months of use is something long-term reviews will show.
Thin and strong
At 5.2 mm thick when open, it’s very slim. It’s also rated IP68 for water and dust resistance, which not every foldable offers.
Smart camera tricks
Because it has two screens, you can use the outer screen as a viewfinder and take selfies with the main 48MP rear camera, which gives much better quality than a normal selfie camera.
The trade-offs
- Price: $1,999 is a lot, especially as the iPhone 18 Pro Max is $700 cheaper.
- No telephoto lens: you don’t get the optical zoom of the Pro models.
- No Face ID: you unlock it with your fingerprint (Touch ID) instead.
- Heavier: at 254 g, it’s heavier than most phones.
- Apple Pencil support comes later: Apple says it will arrive later this year.
- Siri AI not in the EU at first: the Apple Intelligence-powered Siri won’t initially be available in Europe.
- First generation: first-version products sometimes have problems that get fixed in later models.
The iPhone Duo is not just a bigger iPhone. It’s a different kind of device, and its price only makes sense if you’ll really use the big screen.
Should you buy the iPhone Duo?
Buy it if: you read, work or watch videos a lot on your phone, you want to carry one device instead of a phone and a tablet, and the price isn’t a problem.
Skip it if: you care most about camera zoom, you want the best value, or you’d rather wait for a second version once any first-generation problems are fixed. The iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max will suit most people better.
