iOS 27.2: what’s new and should you update?
Apple released iOS 27.2 on October 26 with more Siri AI languages, Messages suggestions, Shared Albums and security fixes. Here's what's new and how to update safely.
Apple has released iOS 27.2, the first major update since iOS 27 arrived on September 14. It brings Siri AI to more languages, new tools in Messages and Photos, and security fixes. Here is what is new and whether you should install it.
When was iOS 27.2 released?
Apple released iOS 27.2 on October 26, 2026. Until now, iOS 27.1 was reserved for the iPhone Duo. Version 27.2 brings the iPhone Duo and Apple’s other iPhones onto the same version of iOS.
What’s new in iOS 27.2?
- Siri AI in more languages: Siri AI is now available in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, according to coverage of the update.
- Suggestions in Messages: the Messages app now offers contextual suggestions.
- Shared Albums in Photos: new sharing options for photo albums.
- Apple Music: a new look for the app.
- Podcasts: changes and a redesigned app, including new features in CarPlay.

Apple’s full release notes list the details for your model, and some features depend on your device and region. A redesigned Health app was tested in the betas, but check Apple’s notes to see what is actually included in your version.
Should you update?
For most people, yes. Security fixes are the main reason, because they protect you from known problems. New features are a bonus. A few cases where you might wait a few days:
- Your phone is critical for work and you rely on an app that has not been confirmed to work on iOS 27.2.
- You are travelling and want to avoid any risk of a problem mid-trip.
How to update safely
- Back up your iPhone to iCloud or your computer.
- Charge it or plug it in, and connect to Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings > General > Software Update.
- Tap Update Now (or turn on Automatic Updates).
- Check that your key apps and Siri settings work after the update.
If you don’t see the update yet, restart your phone and check again later, because Apple rolls out updates in waves. Make sure you only install updates from Settings, not from links in texts or emails.
What if something goes wrong?
Restart your iPhone first, since it fixes most minor issues. If battery life or apps behave oddly, give it a day or two as the phone re-indexes data after an update. If problems continue, contact Apple Support.
